2010 Games

Special Olympics is one of the most widely respected and recognized non-profit organizations in the United States, providing athletic opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities. Nearly 3,000 athletes from all 50 states traveled to Nebraska in July 2010, accompanied by more than 1,000 coaches, 8,000 volunteers, 15,000 family and friends, and 30,000 spectators, for six days to experience and/or compete in thirteen sporting events during the 2010 Special Olympics USA National Games. The Cessna Citation Special Olympics Airlift, the largest civilian airlift in the world, had 250 private jets bring thousands of athletes and coaches from all 50 states, landing nearly every 90 seconds for over 12 hours straight. The Final Leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run® brought 150+ police officers from across the nation to run the torch through 100 Nebraska communities bringing “The Flame of Hope” into our Opening Ceremony. There were many moving parts to the 2010 Games, my main responsibilities included the following:

  • Managed the nationally exposed brand for the largest sporting event held in the US in 2010 and implemented it across sponsorship proposals, presentations, signage, ads, marketing materials, merchandise, commemorative program, handbooks and promotional items.
  • Managed event coordinators overseeing the week long promotional event, Special Olympics Town, which included indoor Sports Experience activities, outdoor Fan Fest with live music and the Healthy Athletes Program. Special Olympics Town welcomed nearly 10,000 visitors per day in a well organized, branded and fun atmosphere.
  • Recruited print shops to donate their services and 80 volunteers which I trained to install signage at 16 venues in two days.
  • "Be a Fan" campaign advertisement
